Audi 80

Produced by the German automobile firm Audi, the Audi 80 is a small sized executive car which was produced for thirty years between nineteen sixty six and nineteen ninety six. The car was available in a saloon body style and also an estate class. There were coupe and convertible variations of the car, but they did not share the name or badge of the Audi 80 even though they were nearly identical and shared mostly the same parts and styling. The Audi 90 was simply a higher end Audi 80, aimed at the upmarket buyers. North American and Australian buyers may recognise the car under the model name Fox, and 4000.

Initially born from the F103 series of Audi cars, the Audi 80 was named so due to the engine output, 80 break horse power. The B1 was continued, and ran from nineteen seventy two to nineteen seventy eight before it was redesigned. There was a notable facelift in nineteen seventy six, with the introduction of squared front lights and a redesigned front.

Within that time frame there were over one million cars built. An estate version was introduced, although it was mostly a VW Passet with the 80 panels to the front of the car.

The late seventies saw the redesign of the Audi 80 in Europe and North America. At the same time the North American model became the 4000, whilst the European cars remained under the 80 name. The estate variation of the car was dropped, whilst the Passet remained in the market place. The Audi 90 was also introduced, basically the 80 with a larger engine and upmarket options. The last facelift to the car was made four years before the car production ceased, with the B4 model.
